Biography

Sarah was born in 1979, and grew up in a small village near the sea in Denmark. She was part of a big family with a variety of mental health struggles. There was love, chaos, and a lot of freedom to explore. She learned to escape the chaos through drawing. What started out as a way of finding calm in chaos quickly grew into a source of confidence and passion. In 2003 she moved to London, where she did a Foundation Course Degree at Central Saint Martins. She expanded this into an honors degree in sculpture from Wimbledon College of Art in 2008. While doing her degree and in the years after, she was an assistant to a high-profile artist. She was a part of various large-scale projects, and worked creatively in his Brixton studio.

Art as a Path to Wholeness

My inspiration starts with intuition. It’s a sense of being drawn to materials, shapes and colour. When I create, I am in a place of wonder and discovery and that is the experience I want to pass on. I make art to light up a space, the same way I feel lit up myself when I create.

I always come back to exploring themes around mental health, and art as a path to wholeness. I feel a sense of healing power in exploring vibrant colours, forms and ideas. Playfulness and experimentation is not just an aesthetic choice but a philosophy. It's a celebration of the childlike curiosity and joy. I want my artwork to allow expression of the full range of emotion and each experiment is a step on the way towards wholeness.
